The release of the Samsung Galaxy S22 may be a few months away, but leaks have been increasing. The latest news indicates that Samsung’s early 2022 flagship may be equipped with an impressive camera system.

Early rumors pointed out that a 50MP sensor was used in the Galaxy S22 series. Now, a new prompt from the prompter Yogesh, in response to the Ice Universe tweet, indicates that the sensor may be an RGBW (red, green, blue, and white) unit.

Why use an RGBW sensor?
It is too early to confirm any specifications of the Galaxy S22 series, but the RGBW sensor will be an interesting inclusion. In theory, adding white pixels should help the sensor acquire more light information across the entire spectrum. This should improve the overall light performance of the sensor in darker scenes.

The first mobile phone to adopt this technology is Huawei P8. Its sensor took impressive photos at the time, but it did encounter overexposure issues in brighter scenes. Taking into account the mobile phone launched five years ago, we believe that the advancement of modern sensors and software will alleviate this problem to a large extent.

Samsung will not be the only company that uses such sensors to develop mobile phones. At the end of last year, Vivo announced plans to launch mobile phones with RGBW sensors in 2021. Although the name of the device has not been revealed, the technology may make its debut on the camera-centric follow-up product of the Vivo X60.

Although Yogesh's tips are generally reliable, you should still treat the information with caution. After the Galaxy Z Fold 3 is expected to debut later this month, Samsung may only launch the Galaxy S22 series in the first quarter of 2022. There is still enough time for new details to emerge.

Other rumors suggest that Samsung’s following flagship product lines may make significant progress in camera performance. According to reports, the company is also developing a 200MP sensor and improving its current 108MP sensor, so it is expected to make its debut on devices (Samsung or other) in the future.
